25 March 2020

25 March 12020 is the Day to Remember Slavery Victims and Transatlantic Slave Trade. It is also the World Solidarity Day for Detained and Missing Workers, Greek Independence Day (Cyprus), the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord (Greece and Lebanon), Chaitra Sukhladi (India), and Maryland Day (Maryland). The saint of the day is Dismas, or Demas, or Rakh, or Zoathan—the Thief on the Cross who spoke up for Jesus and was scheduled to be with him in Paradise that day. People of note who were born today include Béla Bartók, Gloria Steinem, and Elton John.
It seems that the U. S. president’s interest in the pandemic, always flitting and fitful, has waned, and he wants to declare it over and move on to other things. He seems puzzled that the governors of the states most afflicted by the novel coronavirus expect the federal government to DO ITS GODDAMN JOB as he attempted to fob it off on them. Trump’s incompetence has now risen to a lethal level, and if he isn’t up to the job, he should either RESIGN, BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE, or FACE A FIRING SQUAD. I favor the last option. The time for half measures is long past.
