2 February 12020 is Candlemas—and also Groundhog Day. It may also be Day
of Youth (Azerbaijan), Constitution
Day (Philippines), Trader’s Day
(Poland), Victory of the Battle of
Stalingrad (Russia), and Inventor’s
Day (Thailand). So Wikipedia claims, anyway, and I haven’t researched any
of these myself. And it’s the birthday of Ayn Rand, American poseur, novelist,
and pseudo-philosopher.
In the news the Wuhan coronavirus has claimed its first victim
outside of China; someone has died from it in the Philippines. Unknown
assailants—probably Islamist militants—have claimed at least 62 victims in the Democratic
Republic of Congo, many of them women and children.
And today’s the day we see whether Mercury sees his shadow
when he emerges from Capricorn—if he does it’s six more months of bad luck. Or
something like that.
I can’t write anything further; the r key on my keyboard is
stuck and I can’t stop coughing.
