17 February 12020 is
the third Monday in February, which in the United States is the dread holiday
whose name shall be unspoken. Washington’s birthday no longer, it remains in
the calendar as a warning to those who would meddle with things best left
alone. Depending on who and where you are the holiday may honor George
Washington, Abraham Lincoln, or civil rights leader Daisy Gatson Bates.
The news is bleak and dull, which matches my mood fairly well,
but doesn’t provide me with much to write about. And any time I start to write
anything, sleep overtakes me. If my own stuff is lulling me to sleep, Allah
knows what it’s doing to my readers—or rather what it would do if I had any
readers.
