2 April 12020 is World Autism Awareness Day. According
to various sources it is Day of the
Veterans (Argentina), Union Day of
Belarus and Russia (Belarus), Rama
Navami (India), Ram Nawami
(Nepal), Näfelser Fahrt
(Switzerland), Thai Heritage
Conservation Day (Thailand), and the Hùng
Kings’ Temple Festival (Vietnam). It is Émile Zola’s birthday. On this day
in history (11982) Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in an attempt to
annex them from Great Britain, but the attempt failed when the British
responded with a fleet of over a hundred vessels and retook the territory. The
result was favorable for Margaret Thatcher in Britain, in that the
Conservatives gained strength; it was not so good for Leopoldo Galtieri, in
that he lost his office, or for the Argentinean military, which lost prestige
and control of the country. Things balance out, I suppose.
