After you start making decisions, then you get what you deserve". This presupposes that Republicans, especially the well-to-do leadership deserve everything they have, and that poor people have everything <i>they</i> deserve also. This kind of reasoning can be used to justify all kinds of behavior and lawmaking, including the denial of services to children and the protection of corporations covering up the rape of their own employees. <br />Once you start feeling that you deserve what you have, and that others less fortunate deserve that fate also, then there really is no limit to what kind of behavior you can rationalize away.<br /><br />By the way, I too have no problem with the death penalty, though I'd really like to see tougher rules for it's application (and stiffer penalties for misconduct in cases resulting in a death sentence). If you think of life as a game, killers know that a possible penalty for murder is death.
